Scalp Micropigmentation is a safe and effective solution for hair loss and baldness that you and your clients will love. When performed by a certified technician, Scalp Micropigmentation produces predictable results, making it a preferred treatment.

This course is divided into 7 modules and a final exam. You will need to submit your work as you go and pass the final exam with an 80% score or higher to become certified by Skyn in Scalp Micropigmentation. If you have any questions, scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the "Ask A Question" form. Due to our heavy student volume, please allow up to 48 hours for a reply. Don't let a misunderstanding or moment of confusion hold up your training progress. If you're unsure about anything at all, "Ask A Question", skip over it, and resume your training while awaiting an answer.

After your work has been submitted, a response with thoughtful feedback will be sent within 24-48 hours. If your work is not perfect the first time, that's okay! This is a learning process, and mistakes are a part of that. Don't let the fear of being incorrect prevent you from submitting work. Our team will point you in the right direction. Work can be submitted as many times as needed until it is approved.

The length of time it takes to finish this course will vary from person to person. Those with a background in aesthetics or permanent makeup looking to add a new service to their portfolio may receive a certificate in as little as 5 to 7 days. For people who are newer to the industry, it could take 3 weeks or more. While the risks of the Scalp Micropigmentation treatment are relatively low, we want to make sure you are comfortable and that we feel comfortable with you doing the procedure before we certify you.

Access to this online training program will only last for 180 days. After 180 days, you will no longer be able to access your training. If you need an extension, feel free to contact us, but please try to keep your training within the 180-day limit. Six months should be more than enough time to complete this training program. Within that time, feel free to look over the material and use it for reference as much as you like. Be sure not to share your password with anyone. If you're logged into your account on more than 4 devices at once, you will lose access to your Skyn Aesthetics Training account.

Please make sure to check the medical guidelines for your area. While we are certifying that you have passed this class, there may be additional procedures required where you live. They may differ country to country, state to state, and city to city.

We are excited to teach you the art of Scalp Micropigmentation and bring you into the world of permanent makeup. These procedures have the ability to boost confidence and change lives. Your clients will love their results, and you will love the extra income and high return this treatment provides.

Introduction to Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive hair restoration technique that involves injecting pigment into the scalp to create the appearance of hair follicles. SMP is also known as scalp tattooing, hair tattooing, or medical hairline tattooing. The technique originated in the early 2000s, initially as a solution for alopecia and scarring, but has since expanded to cover a wide range of hair loss conditions.

SMP is suitable for both men and women of all ages and ethnicities who suffer from hair loss or thinning. SMP can help to create a natural-looking hairline, add density to thinning areas, conceal scars or birthmarks, and create the appearance of a closely-cropped buzz cut. SMP is a permanent solution that requires minimal maintenance and can save clients time and money compared to other hair restoration techniques. SMP can also boost clients' confidence and self-esteem, allowing them to feel more comfortable and confident in their appearance.

SMP differs from other hair restoration techniques such as hair transplants, wigs, and hairpieces, which can be invasive, expensive, and require ongoing maintenance. SMP can be a standalone treatment or used in conjunction with other hair restoration methods to enhance their effectiveness. SMP is suitable for a wider range of hair loss conditions than some other techniques, such as hair transplants, which require a certain amount of donor hair to be available.

When starting a scalp micropigmentation business, it is important to consider the legal and regulatory requirements for your state or region. This includes forming a legal entity such as a Limited Liability Company (LLC) to protect your personal assets, as well as obtaining proper insurance coverage to protect your business.

In addition, it is important to research and comply with any licensing and regulatory requirements specific to scalp micropigmentation in your area. In many states, scalp micropigmentation falls under the same regulatory guidelines as permanent makeup or tattooing, and practitioners may need to obtain a tattoo license or certification.

Failing to comply with legal and regulatory requirements can result in fines, legal issues, and damage to your business reputation. It is important to stay up to date on any changes or updates to regulations and licensing requirements, and to seek legal advice if needed.

By forming an LLC and obtaining proper insurance coverage, as well as complying with legal and regulatory requirements, you can protect your business and ensure its long-term success. If you haven’t already you will want to do your research on the regulations in your state to be sure you are taking all steps necessary to legally perform this treatment.

SMP is not just a technical procedure, but also an art form that requires a skilled practitioner to create a natural-looking 2D illusion of hair. The practitioner must consider factors such as the client's hair color, skin tone, facial structure, and desired style to create a customized treatment plan that suits their individual needs. The practitioner must also have a keen eye for detail and a steady hand to create consistent and natural-looking hair follicles. Mastery of the art of SMP requires practice, experience, and ongoing learning to stay up-to-date with new techniques and trends in the field.

When it comes to consulting with clients for Scalp Micropigmentation, it's essential to establish a good rapport and ensure the client feels comfortable and confident in the procedure. Here are some tips to keep in mind during a client consultation:

Build trust: Establishing trust with your clients is crucial. Explain the procedure and any possible side effects, so they know what to expect. Answer any questions they may have, and be honest about the results they can expect.

Conduct a thorough examination: Before the consultation, ask your clients to bring photos of their hair when they were younger to get a better understanding of what their natural hairline and color were. Assess the degree of hair loss, the pattern of hair loss, and the color and texture of the hair.

Customize the procedure: Every client's hair loss is unique. Customize the procedure based on the client's hairline, facial features, and hair loss pattern. Discuss different options and provide recommendations on what will work best for their particular case.

Explain the process: Explain the entire procedure, including the number of sessions required, the expected downtime, and any post-procedure care instructions.

Manage expectations: It's essential to manage your client's expectations. Explain that the procedure will not restore their hair, but it will create the appearance of a full head of hair. Emphasize that it is a gradual process, and multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.

Provide before and after photos: Show your clients before and after photos of previous clients with similar hair loss patterns. This will help them visualize what to expect and build their confidence in the procedure.

Follow up: After the consultation, follow up with your clients to answer any additional questions they may have. Provide them with resources, so they can do their own research and make an informed decision.

Remember, a successful Scalp Micropigmentation procedure starts with a successful consultation. Building a good relationship with your clients and managing their expectations is crucial to ensure a positive outcome.

The duration of the Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) treatment can vary depending on the individual's skin type, lifestyle, and the quality of aftercare. Generally, the treatment can last for up to 5 years or more, but touch-up sessions are recommended every 2-3 years to maintain the desired results.

It's important to keep in mind that the longevity of the treatment also depends on how well the individual follows the aftercare instructions provided by the technician. Proper aftercare, such as avoiding direct sunlight, excessive sweating, and harsh chemicals on the scalp, can help extend the lifespan of the SMP treatment.

The technician may recommend a follow-up session after the initial treatment to ensure that the pigment has settled well into the scalp and to make any necessary adjustments. The follow-up session is typically scheduled 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment.

Overall, SMP is a long-lasting solution for hair loss that requires regular maintenance to keep the desired results.

HOW MANY sessions ARE needed for optimal results?

The number of sessions required for optimal Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) results can vary depending on the individual's hair loss pattern, skin type, and desired density of pigmentation. Typically, two to three sessions are needed to achieve the best results.

During the first session, the technician will create a preliminary hairline and fill in the bald areas with small, densely packed dots. This session typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on the extent of hair loss. After the first session, the scalp may appear slightly red and swollen, and the pigment may appear darker than the desired result. This is normal and will fade over time.

The second session, which is typically scheduled 4-6 weeks after the first, is used to build upon the initial work and add density to the scalp. During this session, the technician will evaluate the results of the first session and make any necessary adjustments. This session may take slightly longer than the first, depending on the amount of work needed.

In some cases, a third session may be needed to achieve the desired density and coverage. This session may also be used to touch up any areas that may have faded or need additional work.

Overall, the number of sessions required for optimal results can vary, and it's important to follow the technician's advice on the number of sessions needed to achieve the desired outcome. It's also important to note that SMP is a gradual process, and multiple sessions may be needed to achieve the desired results.

Appointments must be spaced out by a minimum of 4-6 weeks.

preparing for treatment day

Preparing for Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) treatment day is essential to ensure the best possible results and a comfortable experience. Here are some tips to follow before your SMP treatment:

Shave your head: Shaving your head a day before the treatment is essential. This ensures that the technician can see the natural hairline and determine the best placement of the pigments.

Avoid sun exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure to the scalp for at least a week before the treatment. Sunburn or a tan on the scalp can affect the pigment's absorption and result in an uneven appearance.

Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medication: Avoid drinking alcohol or taking blood-thinning medication for at least 24 hours before the treatment. These can increase bleeding and interfere with the pigment's absorption.

Eat a light meal: Eating a light meal before the treatment can help prevent lightheadedness or nausea during the procedure.

Wear comfortable clothing: Wear comfortable clothing that can be easily removed and avoid wearing any hats or headbands that may interfere with the pigmentation process.

Arrive on time: Arrive on time for your appointment, and avoid rushing or feeling stressed on the day of the treatment.

Bring headphones or music: Bring headphones or music to listen to during the treatment to help you relax and feel comfortable.

Following these tips can help ensure a comfortable and successful SMP treatment experience. It's also essential to follow the technician's advice and aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results.
